Blitzboks star signs permanent deal with Stormers

The Stormers have announced that Springbok Sevens speedster Angelo Davids has signed a two-year contract with Western Province Professional Rugby.

The 22-year-old flier made his debut for both the Stormers and Western Province in 2020 and is returning full-time, having focused more on the Sevens in 2021.

The signing is a significant boost for the Stormers’ United Rugby Championship side, which also includes Seabelo Senatla, Sergeal Petersen and Leolin Zas as options on the wing.

Davids said he was delighted to be back with his Stormers teammates at the start of an exciting new chapter in his career.

In the right environment

“Having worked with the players and coaches here in 2020, I know this is the right place to develop my abilities in the 15 game,” he told the Stormers official website.

“I’m now in great shape and ready to give it a full crack. I look forward to contributing in any way I can for DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province.

Stormers head coach John Dobson believes having a player of Davids’ skill set in the mix is exciting for everyone involved.

“We know Angelo has the kind of X-factor we need, we’ve seen exactly what he’s capable of in 2020,” he said.

“Angelo’s skill set is a perfect match for the type of rugby we want to play so we can’t wait to see him back in a DHL Stormers shirt.”
